PhD position in Heat and Power Technology at Chalmers University of Technology
Application deadline 2009-06-15
The research within the
Department of Energy and Environment covers a wide field within the areas
energy and environment from a global perspective to industrial, building and product scale.
The overall aim of research within the Heat and Power Technology group is to develop and spread knowledge concerning rational use of biomass (including biorefineries), energy efficiency and CO2 emissions reduction opportunities in industrial processes.
Biorefinery concepts have become of high interest for e.g. Swedish process industry, not the least the pulp and paper one. In biorefineries alternative transportation fuels, electricity/heat and/or “green” materials or chemicals can be produced.

The main aim with the PhD project is to improve knowledge of technical, economic and environmental consequences of different strategic biorefinery developments in the pulp and paper industry. The main parts of the project will be:
Further energy efficiency opportunities in the pulp and paper industry
Comparisons biorefinery concepts
Optimal use of excess heat, connected to biorefinery concepts
The work will be conducted in close cooperation with industry and other PhD projects/research groups.
The PhD position also involves taking part in the undergraduate education.
