Heya, Lawrence Berkeley Lab (LBL) confirms element 114. Ten years ago, a Russian group claimed to have made this element but there is almost no other confirmation since then. The Heino Nitsche' group at LBL have found 2 isotopes of this element and their decaying.
This research also get the first step on "Island of Stability" prediction, which says that heavy atoms could have a special combination of protons and neutrons to become very stable. This prediction states that 114 and 184 are first magic numbers.
This is also a very traditional research of LBL and Chem. Dept. of UCB where many atoms were discovered here.
