The pump is useful because it works with generic drip tubing, as opposed to models which are only compatible with a specific drip system.
In terms of quality, it is a high-quality product, that fits between the hospital-grade bullet-proof designs and the much less solid, more economical units. This unit is intended for use in a research facility where trained personnel will handle it, for occasional use and proper maintenance. It is not (I believe) clinical grade.
