It’s 90% there, but needs a safety cleanup before using
This unit tries to be good and is of better than average quality compared to typical direct export kit. It even includes the required safety features for Class 1 equipment (grounding, fusing, heatshrink, HV/LV separation). Unfortunately the mains Line is switched while the neutral is fused, and the ground is contact-soldered rather than compression crimped. Both of these would likely prevent UL/CSA certification. Very unfortunate since both are easily corrected. The transformer is well built, and after decoding the control board, it does seem to include functional overload protection and active voltage regulation. On the downside, there are many signs of low-costmanufacture inside including high-odor plastics, copper-coated aluminum wiring, and (in the unit I received) a couple incomplete solder joints on the control board. In short, don’t buy it and expect to use it out-of-the-box. But it is worth buying as a project or for parts.Read full review
